6 major differences between Olamide and Phyno’s stadium concerts
If there was a list of upcoming Nigerian music legends being prepared, it is certain that Olamide and Phyno will be on that list.
By their exploits in the Nigerian music industry, both musicians have done more to encourage a ‘concert going culture’ among Nigerians than any other entertainers in the country.
Phyno’s Phynofest music festival is currently in its third year and the 2017 edition saw the musician sell out the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
Olamide’s OLIC (Olamide Live in Concert) is currently in its fourth year and the 2017 edition was also special because it was the first time Baddo was attempting to fill up the Teslim Balogun Stadium venue of the event.
Although some say both musicians are only taking a page out South African rapper Cassper Nyovest’s book by holding shows at stadiums, one cannot help but commend them for their attempts.
In this article, NAIJ.com will point out the major differences in both Olamide’s stadium concert and that of his close friend Phyno.
1. Location
Phyno is regarded as the King of the East so it made sense that he would chose to hold Phynofest in Enugu. Olamide is also known as the King of the Streets in Lagos but one of the few things that had stopped him from fully wearing the crown was that he was yet to reach the level of Cassper Nyovest and Phyno in filling out stadiums. Previous versions of OLIC were held in Eko Hotel and many were of the opinion that the venue had become small for the crowd that usually attended. Hence his decision to use Teslim Balogun stadium.
2. Time
Olamide also stunned many when he announced that OLIC 4 holding at the Teslim Balogun stadium was going to start by 12pm. Even though the show started after that, performing artistes took to the stage during the day. Phynofest was also billed to start by 12pm but it was primarily a night affair.
3. Artiste line-up
One thing that always stood out at OLIC was the sheer number of musicians that performed at the yearly event. Olamide gave every one –either upcoming or established the chance to perform on his stage. 2017’s edition was no different. Phyno also did the same at Phynofest. Even though Olamide had the upper hand in this regard. This is another reason why these two need to be celebrated.

4. Security
Allegations of r*pe, harassment have trailed Phynofest 2017 on social media and Phyno has been swift in denying this while also promising to investigate the claims. OLIC4 on the other hand has been hailed with the way security was handled.
5. Food
One Twitter user shared his surprise at how guests at OLIC4 were offered noodles and jollof rice with drinks as they entered the venue. So far, no one has confirmed if this happened at Phynofest 2017.
6. Crowd
According to photos, video and eyewitness reports, the crowd that attended Phynofest 2017 exceeded the 22,000 capacity of the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium venue of the concert. However, OLIC4 also according to photos, video and eyewitness reports did not get up to the 24,325 required to fill up the stadium. Instead, 12,000 people turned up for the concert. This is impressive because this is the first time that Olamide was holding a show at a stadium. Perhaps he will get more numbers in subsequent editions.
