AUGUST ALSINA SAYS DEF JAM IS KEEPING HIS ALBUM ‘HOSTAGE’
August Alsina speaks out. In response to a fan’s query about when his album Drugs will see the light of day, the R&B crooner voiced his frustrations with Def Jam.
“I would love to put my album out but DEF JAM is holding it/me hostage because the system is not up & running until next year so they basically dont exist,” he tweeted. “The label is just TRASH .. I will release free music soon but that has been the hold up. Tell Them to FREE ME & the Album.”
Alsina announced Drugs back in January 2017. Shortly after that, he dropped a trio of videos for its singles, “Drugs,” “Wait,” and “Lonely.”
In May, he revealed details about his ongoing battle with liver disease. “I have a liver disease, where my autoimmune system is fighting against itself,” he said. “The reality is that I’m sick all the time. I don’t really like to talk about it because I’m not looking for anybody’s sympathy. Don’t treat me like I’m a fuckin’ cancer patient ’cause I’m not.”
Drugs will mark Alsina’s third studio album, following 2014’s Testimony and 2015’s This Thing Called Life.
